Cornell CatWatch Earns Multiple Writing Awards

Including two major awards and three MUSE medallions

Our Cornell CatWatch staff is thrilled to have earned two of the Cat Writer’s Assocation’s major awards and three MUSE Medallions, which are awarded to the entry receiving the highest average score from three independent judges in each category. All judges are volunteers and are professional CWA members.

Dr. Eileen Fatcheric earned the Lorie Huston Health Award for “The Pain of Dental Disease.” The Lori Huston award is presented for outstanding reporting on feline health-care issues. Entries are judged on writing excellence, technical accuracy, the topic’s significance, and the educational impact on feline health.

Dr. Deb Eldredge, our technical editor, earned the Nancy Marano Senior Cat Well-Being Award for “Dental Disease in Senior Cats.” This award is presented to the highest-quality entry in the category of older, aging, and senior cats. Topics can include, but are not limited to, adoption, health, innovative care, compassionate care, and senior-for-senior programs.

Dr. Fatcheric and Dr. Eldredge also earned MUSE Medallions for entries that received an average score of at least 90 from all three of the contest judges.

Dr. Fatcheric won for “At-Home Glucose Testing” in the written article, general care, long category.

Dr. Eldredge won for “Watch For Dehydration” in the written article, general care, short category.

Our third Muse Medallion was awarded to Cornell CatWatch in the periodical/national publication category, making it the top choice in feline publications nationally.

In addition, we earned multiple certificates of excellence for the following works:

Cynthia Foley and Deb M. Eldredge, DVM,   Cornell CatWatch (entire publication)

Deb M. Eldredge, DVM — “Dealing With Dry Skin,” “Dental Disease in Senior Cats,” “Feline Seizures,” “Finding a New Home,” “Must I Spay or Neuter My Cat?” “Should You Report Hoarding?” “Those Annoying Anal Glands,” and “Watch For Dehydration.”

Eileen Fatcheric, DVM — “At-Home Glucose Testing,” “Diagnosing Diarrhea,” “Ease the Stress of Upper-Respiratory Infections,” “Pain, Stress, and Gabapentin,” “The Pain of Dental Disease,” and “When Ear Infections Deepen.”
